Hardwood species choices
There are many different species in this category. Each one holds a little something different for the homeowner. For instance, cherry wood is known for its unique coloring and the way it holds a stain. It’s also very hard and durable. Oak, on the other hand, is also very durable and takes a stain well, but with an entirely different look.
Here are just a few species options in this category:
- Bamboo
- Oak
- Walnut
- Maple
- Ash
Hardwood flooring finishes
Just as there are many species of wood flooring, there are also many ways you can finish it. While some of them come prefinished, meaning they receive everything they need at the manufacturing location, some of them come still needing to be finished. Why do you need a finish on your wood floors? The finish is the part that makes your flooring resistant to water, stains, and so much more. Without it, keeping your wood floor clean would be a nightmare.
So here a few different finishes to ask about:
- Wax
- Polyurethane (water or oil based)
- Swedish (acid-cured)
- Oil sealer
- Aluminum oxide
- Shellac
